Young Adult Ministry

The St. Joan of Arc Young Adult Ministry is a ministry for married and single parishioners 18-35 years of age. The ministry facilitates spiritual, social, and service events to help foster faithful Christian growth in community. Childcare is provided for some events upon request.

Upcoming Events

Sunday, February 18th – Latin Mass and Lunch! Join other young adults from St. Joan of Arc at St. Benedict’s Parish in Chesapeake (521 McCosh Drive, 23320) to experience the Traditional Latin Mass. Mass starts at 10:00 am and we will be going out to lunch afterwards. Please RSVP to amccarthy@stjoanofarcva.org by February 16th.

Saturday, March 31st – First Fire: At the start of the Easter Vigil, an Easter (First) Fire is kindled and used to light the Paschal Candle. This First Fire is left in vigil until Easter morning and the parish community gathers throughout the night to celebrate the resurrection of our Savior. This is the second year Young Adult Ministry is taking on responsibility for this event. Please contact amccarthy@stjoanofarcva.org for more information or to sign up!

Peninsula Frassati Events

Friday, February 16th – Norfolk Admiral Game: Young Adults from across the peninsula will be gathering for an Admiral Hockey game at 7:00 pm on the 16th. Tickets can be bought at the door and cost around $20. When arriving, please meet Elizabeth Kassel at the box office underneath the building in the parking garage. Wednesday, February 21st – Theology on Tap – This month Steve Delaney, the Assistant Director for Evangelization at ICC, will be speaking on the 5 Love Languages. Join young adults from across the Peninsula at our new location Schooners Grill! (12567 Warwick Blvd, Newport News), at 7:00 PM. Theology on Tap occurs on the third Wednesday of every month. No RSVP required, just show up and have a great time!

March 3rd – Discovering Silence: Peninsula Frassati Young Adult Lenten Retreat: The retreat will be held from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and will feature talks by Fr. John David Ramsey, Kelly Tallent, and more. The cost is $15 per person and $25 per married couple. Nursery will be provided upon request.

Saturday, March 17th – Catholic Men’s Conference: Men from across the diocese will gather at Saint Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg for the 6th Annual Diocesan Catholic Men’s Conference. This year’s theme, “Truly Present,” will explore Jesus’ presence to us and our call to be present in all our relationships in the world as husband, father, brother, and friend. Hans Urs Von Balthasar, a Swiss theologian from the 20th century, writes, “If you live near a waterfall, after a week, you’ll no longer hear its rumble. In the same way, we have forgotten how to listen” how to be truly present, both to God and to each other (Heart of the World).This year will feature a dual-track conference with keynote speakers in English and Spanish, breakout opportunities, Reconciliation, Adoration, and Mass. April 13-14 – Young Couples Retreat: This ​retreat, hosted by the Center for Marriage, Family, and Life, ​is ​an ​opportunity ​for ​couples ​married ​7 ​years ​or ​less ​to ​refocus ​on ​your ​relationship, ​celebrate ​your ​marriage, ​and ​engage ​your ​faith. ​The ​retreat ​leaders ​will ​be ​Paul ​and ​Gretchen ​George. Paul ​and ​Gretchen ​have ​been ​married ​for ​over ​twenty ​years. ​They ​have ​five ​children: ​Marie, ​Jacob, ​Sarah, ​Clare ​and ​Addie. ​Through ​Christ, ​marriage ​and ​family ​has ​radically ​transformed ​them ​and ​they ​have ​found ​that ​there ​is ​no ​greater ​joy ​than ​to ​be ​loved ​unconditionally ​and ​to ​love ​unconditionally ​despite ​shortcomings. Registration is $150 per couple and ​includes ​all ​meals, ​a ​hotel ​room, ​and ​access ​to ​Wintergreen ​amenities. ​Mass, ​Adoration, ​Reconciliation, ​keynote ​presentations, ​and ​couple’s ​time ​will ​all ​be ​included. Go to https://www.regonline.com/builder/site/?eventid=2118155 to register today.
