The Social Ministry at St. Joan of Arc is established to fulfill the Church’s social mission of love, justice, and peace by responding in a concrete way to societal and individual human needs.
To help us answer our baptismal call, we are reinforced and challenged by the celebration of the sacraments and the proclamation of the word of God as we reach out in service to those in need; defend the life, dignity and rights of all people; and work to change the policies, structures and systems that perpetuate injustice.
Domestic violence, sexual assault, child and elder abuse are on the rise in the U.S. and many would say epidemic. At least one-third of the people in our churches are affected by violence and abuse at the hand of someone they love. We encourage you to raise awareness of this sin of violence by praying for the healing of victims, holding perpetrators accountable, and calling them to wholeness. Together we can make a difference and help to bring peace to our communities. No one should tolerate any form of abuse. Call the Hotline for Virginians against Domestic Abuse at 1-800-838-8238. This call is free and confidential and will not appear on your phone bill.
